Why separate parents form their kids at all ? What is the logic ? *It's very suspicious.* Some kind of abuse it taking place. It would be much cheaper to handle the situation, if the govt. avoided self-made issues.

You know why the United States has Assylum Laws? The Voyage of the Damned is why. In 1939 the United States turned away the MS St. Louis with 936 refugees onboard, of those 936 refugees only 620 survived. Some might be willing to say that's a happy ending... It's not. 254 people died pointlessly, were murdered because the United States and Canada refused to save them. And don't give me that "they'll couldn't have known" bullshit. People knew full well what was going on. They might not have known it to the extent they do now, but they knew well enough that the Germans were depriving Jews of their rights and rounding them up and putting them into camps.

Fun fact: According to the Anti-Defamation League, 75% of all terrorist attacks in the United States are perpetrated by right-wing conservatives. Less than 22% by Islamic extremists, and less than 3% by left-wing radicals. So, if we want to protect our country from dangerous criminals, let's start by evicting all the Republicans out of this country immediately. EDIT: I see some conservatives in the comments have taken umbrage with my casting all Republicans equally in a negative light. Maybe now you know what it feels like to be one of those immigrants that Trump and you, his followers, all label as criminals and rapists. Doesn't feel so good, does it?

"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the 'pacifists' for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to greater danger." - Hermann Goering, Nazi Reichsmarshall, at the Nuremberg Trials. Also found in the Fox "News" guide on how to report the news, evidently.

When the migrant children situation first came into public attention, I remember crying until my eyes puffed up. And I just did it again after seeing that child cry and listening to how it absolutely never had to happen in the first place. I mean, I never thought it had to happen but seeing as it replaced a method that was already working just adds a new level of pain. This makes me so ashamed to be American. I also live in a deep south red state. People here are very pro-life because children are supposed to be the world. Children and the family unit are supposed to be valued here above all else. People are expected be neighbor-loving Christians. The people I work with talk ALL the time about their children. They love their children more than anything. And yet, they all support Trump. And when I spoke up and mentioned this situation with migrant children, they all said NOTHING. They had no excuse. There IS no excuse for this. There is no justification for this. But the shittiest part is that they still support him and everything he does. Why? Don't tell me you give a shit about children and families when the real truth is you only care about YOUR children and YOUR family and who gives a fuck if we destroy those of non-white, non-American families? I'm glad this came out right before elections. We need to be reminded of this. We can not let this be swept under the rug and ignored and this needs to be on people's minds when they choose their government representation.

The thing about that ending that gets me is that Jenri's mother clearly loves him. What Jenri went through was so deeply traumatic that he had to believe she did /not/ love him because that was the only way his poor brain could make sense of what was going on. It's a defence mechanism. A very young child believing he is unloved by the being his brain associates with everything good in the world is EASIER for him to process and accept than the reality of the situation. THAT is how horrific this is. And he's not alone. It's just easier to empathise with a video of a single crying kid than a clinical observation of trauma and attachment.

Ok. let's sum up some of Trump Administration's achievements: 1. Tax cuts for the wealthiest people. 2. Boycotting ACA (Obamacare) or provoking, inducing it to implode, D. Trump is letting many US citizens die and cuttting health spending to pay for tax cuts. 3. Repealing Net Neutrality. By the way FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai is right, you can and you will be able to do the same on the internet, but he did not say .....at cost or at a higher cost than it already have. 4. Elimination of Protected lands. 5. Pulling out USA from Iran Nuclear Deal, which is likely to raise the risk of conflicts in the Middle East, upset America's European allies and disrupt global oil supplies. 6. Replaced an executive order signed by former President Obama that sought to reduce federal agencies’ energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. 7. He signed a bipartisan bill to loosen key portions of the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010. 8. Imposed tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from the European Union, Canada and Mexico spurring over a trade war. 9. EPA has decided that it will not look at air, water or ground contaminants when it determines the health and safety risks of potentially toxic chemicals. 10. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, in her most drastic move to deregulate for-profit colleges, announced the end Obama-Era safeguards aimed at abuses by For-Profit Colleges. 11. EPA authorized a new use rule that allow the creation of new products containing asbestos. 12. Thousands of children being separated from their parents at the U.S. border. 13. Reversing a trend in the final years of the Obama presidency, the administration is auctioning off millions of acres of drilling rights and rolling back regulations, raising environmental concerns in states like Wyoming. What's next for this despicable Administration? ";-)

Back in 2004, my mom was pulled over for a taillight or turn signal not working on a towed trailer; we got out of the car and checked the lights, both the truck and trailer lights worked just fine. The cop spent over an hour arguing with her trying to come up with some excuse to take me into "protective custody", I was 11. The truck and trailer were completely legal; both were full of shit because we were beginning a move from Idaho to Alabama that exact time, or he probably would have searched the truck to plant something, arrest her and kidnap me. There is something terrible going on with our country, and it is only getting worse with time. The government has lost track of babies taken from immigrants, has anyone checked on the rest of the foster children? I have heard that the state receives money for foster kids but I don't know how true that is since I haven't heard of that in years; if he had succeeded in taking me, would it have been to make the local PD look " tough on crime", or would I have been trafficked and sold to the highest bidder? I do not know, but I've been eyed hard by each cop that has ever pulled my parents over, and to be honest, that kind of thing creeps me the hell out. "Serve and protect" seems to be a thing of the past.

I start to think the people who support such policy are like school bullies, but more sadistic. Just like bullies, they feel insecure about themselves. They are doubtful about their own strengths as individuals. So, in order to feel more "powerful", they demonise the most vulnerable people around: refugees. They feel unsafe in their homelands and they feel unaccepted in foreign lands. Those bullies are exhilarated when the family-separation policy is enacted. Why? Because this method of demonising refugees is actually tangible and it makes those bullies feel even more "powerful" than before! They never give a shit about crimes, national security and all those shits. They just want keep drowning themselves in the "powerful selves" make-believe!

"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"" I don't know about you, folks, but I for one feel very strongly that we have a certain duty toward immigrants — not as a superpower, or as a First World country, or as a Western civilization, or as any other assigned moniker, but as America, as the country we decided we were going to be. I'm not in support of illegal immigration, I'm not okay with it. With that being said, one of the things I keep saying regarding videos, articles, etc. discussing this subject is that we all need to take a step back and look at how people are literally coming in droves to our border to seek asylum, and entering the country illegally, during an administration that is without a doubt the most hostile towards them. With that kind of hostility, they're still coming and trying to get in. That speaks a lot about what they're having to deal with in their home nations. As for the separation of families, it's a blatant violation of the 8th Amendment.

I was watching this episode with my mom and she started crying when the clip of the traumatized kid came on. She told me she couldn’t handle if I was separated and traumatized to the point I feel less human and hated than others. No parent should go through that and no kid should have this kind of treatment regardless of your political views. This isn’t politics anymore, this is basic human morals that are thrown out the window, and these poor children will pay the long-term price for our ignorance. These aren’t criminals, these are families just like ones you have, and no family should suffer that kind of trauma.

When I was 4 my mom left me with my grandparents in Mexico while she immigrated to the US to find work. When she finally got settled down and we were reunited I remember her asking me “Do you love me?” And I said no. I don’t know how long we were apart but it was enough for me to forget who she was. I sat in her lap focusing on playing with some toys she had bought me while she cried. I didn’t realize until years later how much I probably hurt her. It was thanks to her I was able to grow up in the US and eventually join the Marines. I’ve traveled all over the world and now I’m getting ready to go to college. I can’t thank her enough. I think there is only one good thing, and I literally mean only one thing, Trump's administration can be given credit for. Showing us just how much work still needs to get done. I remember growing up and school and reading our books about racism, inequality, and general inhumanity and how it all felt like a thing of the past. Sure, no one was naive enough to think that it disappeared, it was still very much prevalent in the U.S. but there was this kinda feeling that anyone who showed that side of them were just social defects and should be rightfully mocked. What Trump has done is given those idiots a voice, a face, telling them it's ok to come crawling out from their corners and just spew the most disgusting hateful things you can imagine. It's jarring to be sure, but I feel now we are all well aware that we can't piggy back on the successes of our past. I feel that's another reason why Hilary didn't win (besides obvious reasons and international meddling). She was trying to ride on pre-established norms, while it was becoming obvious that more would need to be done to unite people of all races rather than just Trump. The way that some of these people speak of others, disregarding the lives of children, is frankly disgusting. It isn't enough to criticize anymore, we have to make the nation more aware, really rally our side instead of trying to tear into the other, and establish that 'no, your backwards thinking doesn't have a place anymore'. It's difficult, but even if everything is bleak now, we have to stay firm, hopelessness and passivity is what these ignorant, hateful people want, to wear you down until you let them have their way, and we can't let that happen. Stay strong, and let's start to make things right again.

We've all seen the documentaries and commercials from third world and worn torn countries of starving children, family's being torn apart and shot down, but there's is something horrifically sinister about a first world nation as renown as the USA tormenting, drugging, and scaring these children by the hundreds to thousands with no concern whatsoever as to what happens to them or where they end up. These children will never trust anyone, not even there own parents, ever again. They will grow up scared with a constant state of fear and hate everyone around them. And with your healthcare system, they will likely never be able to afford counseling or psychiatric therapy for this. What I don't understand is how no one at this point has stepped in to charge trump and his regime, because that's basically what it is now, with crimes against humanity given how open they've been about it. This moment will go down in history, but not as some necessary measure but as yet another reminder that the US really hasn't changed as much as it should have. IT will be taught in classrooms along side slavery, racism, and internment camps. It makes me proud to call myself anything but American. My country is no saint, as a Canadian we've had our unfortunate share in shame of how minorities have been treated, but in this day and age behavior... no, crimes, like this just shouldn't be accepted.

I'm nearly certain that there will be conservative backlash to videos like this saying "wait just a minute, but there are actually really good facilities where they hold children that are really nice to them and have everything in order." I mean, sure Jan, I'm sure there are. But if we had ten schools with the most beautiful facilities and playgrounds, teachers, and free food, but we also had five where the kids were kept in cages, not taught anything all day, and left with lasting psychological trauma, then we'd all still fucking riot. A few things...  Weren't these originally Obama era rules and laws that just carried over to the Trump administration? (Correct me if I'm wrong) And then regarding the caravan... what exactly is the right thing to do? I don't want to see a war down at the border, but I also don't see how we can just let thousands of people just come marching over the border without some very, very serious vetting. Neither the right or the left make any sense at all to me. Lastly, whats the definition of a criminal? Most would happily say that anybody who breaks a law is a criminal. We consider people who drive reckless or drunk criminals, those who are caught with minute amount of marijuana are still considered criminals in most of the country. Why would jumping over a border illegally be any different? Because they're seeking a better life? That's the same reason that drug dealers give us when their caught but we don't excuse it. Why would it be okay for thousands of people to break law after law by coming here illegally? If they aren't here legally, then they can't legally work here. They most likely aren't paying any form of tax. They will benefit from the healthcare system, infrastructure, and protections that law abiding citizens are covering the cost of. I don't care if thousands of people come to join us in the USA, I think they should... especially if their home countries are so horrible that they're willing to march hundreds, thousands of miles to get here. I just think that we need to do some serious vetting, and put them on a quick path to citizenship. It's only fair that they come here and contribute to our society in a positive manor, unless they are willing to accept consequences. I don't get why the left thinks we should just let them flood in without any vetting, and I don't get why the right feels the need to turn this into a war. Neither the Left or the Right have made legal immigration any easier either.

Just when I think I'm becoming acclimated to all the insanity engulfing this country, I see a clip where some clown actually had the audacity to go "womp womp" to a story about a little girl with down syndrome. Bottom of the barrel is a bottomless pit now, apparently.

Fuck yes, John Oliver, America, the Trump stops here. What do you think causes people to grow up to become criminals (besides overzealous drug laws)? Is it people who have not been neglected by their parents? Is it people who grew up in a loving family with loving parents that were there for them? Or being emotionally traumatized. Forget it, though, the midterms are here and its time to stand up, because the right does not understand logical argument so it's time to VOTE THEM OUT!!!

This is not a great country if you have no compassion or empathy.

Oh shit. I have never seen Oliver go that long without a joke and seeing that much anger was kinda frightening not gonna lie. British people don't get angry, they just aggressively drink tea, right?

“The United States will not be a migrant camp and it will not be a refugee holding facility,” Trump, June 18, 2018. Except now we're building tent cities for them, so how is this different? The Tent City at the Maricopa County JAIL was finally dismantled cuz it was deemed inhumane, but now we're going to house thousands of illegal immigrants/refugees on military bases? What could possibly go wrong? VOTE dammit!

*Update after the midterms:* now that the election is over, this isn't very important anymore. False alarm! Caravan isn't an issue! Firing Jeff Sessions is important now! Protecting Trump's criminal hide is all that has EVER mattered!

I didn't need that warning preceding the video of that kid at the end. At this point, I don't think there's *anything* that could shock/surprise me at this point. Hell, I'd be a lot *more* surprised if Sean Hannity or some other Fox host, or Alex Jones *DIDN'T* take that exact clip, play it and say: "See!? The kids LIKE being in 'Murica! They don't REALLY want their parents, if we let them go back they'll just be sold to gangs for that sweet mary-joe-wanna!"

We SHOULD be talking about which midterm candidates support universal healthcare, which support Trumpism, etc...But this group of asylum seekers months away, yeah that should be literally every news outlet’s main focus...

Its supposed to be painful you complete brainlet. Its called a negative incentive. The only reason they come to america is so they can steal a good life for themselves. If that becomes impossible then they wont come. This is pretty basic stuff bro. Kind of alarming you cant figure this out on your own.

And I tell you that as a Mexican cuz the Mexican government offer them jobs and a place to stay and what did they say "we don't want to stay here we want to go to the US where there is more money".

John Oliver looked like he was about to cry. I don’t understand how people can dehumanize these children. The suffering of these people is surreal and heartbreaking but all I hear from my family on the right is that the caravan is funded by Soros.. what a divide.
