What some people don't realize is that the Land Cruiser J200 sold in 'murica is only sold in the highest trim level of the Land Cruiser. In the middle east, a base model J200 LC would costs half the price. It starts from $40000-46000 depending on the country in question. The trim levels are the GX, GX.R, VX, VX-R and VX.S. The base model GX is the stripped down land Cruiser, comes only with either the 4.0 V6 Petrol or 4.5 V8 Turbo diesel. Then there's the GX.R which's the most common model in the middle east. The GX.R is the low-mid range model. The engine choices includes 4.0 V6, 4.6 V8 and V8 turbo diesel. You can have it in either automatic or a 5 speed manual. The VX, VX-E, VX.R and VX.S are the more...luxurious models similar to the one in the video. You get all sorts of "luxurious stuff" from things like leather, touch screens, rear screens, climate control, safety like lane departure, blind spot monitor...etc. Engine choices are the 4.5 V8 turbo diesel, 4.6 V8 petrol and 5.7 V8 that was featured in this video. My point is, a base model Land Cruiser costs about similar prices to a Nissan Patrol Y62, a Chevrolet Tahoe and the Ford Expedition (in the middle eastern prices, mind you). While the Tahoe and Expedition are pretty popular over here, the Land Cruiser and Patrol are more popular thanks to the availability of parts and the famed reliability.

I strongly believe the reason Toyota hasn't updated the fuel economy is because that requires a more complicated engine management system and ultimately more complexity=Less reliability. Sure, you can use a smaller displacement turbo charged V6 or even 4 cylinder but to make the same HP. The deal breaker is low RPM torque. The Land Cruiser makes a HUGE amount of torque and therefor power at a low RPM (under 3.5K) with these newer turbo charged engines you will likely have to rev well over 5K to get the same power and higher engine speeds = faster engine ware. Even some new turbo V6 produce shockingly good torque at relatively low RPM but that requires a very complicated engine management system. It's hard to beat a simple low revving, high torque, N/A V8 made of modern materials... In terms of reliability anyways.

The Land Cruiser still has a traditional parking brake because it has serious off-road capabilities. There are times when a traditional parking brake is helpful in negotiating different types of terrain. This is the same reason they continue to use a smaller wheel/tire combo as well.

As much as the millennial in me likes modern cars and their new technologies, I am not even the slightest bit afraid to admit that I miss a lot of the things that modern cars no longer have! :( I miss a classic and normal handbrake, normal gear shifter, normal climate controls, and etc and etc which I suppose even Toyota will get rid of eventually in the upcoming future! Which is also the reason I am very happy with my 2006 Honda Crv. Simple, but not primitive, has all the safety features that I need it to have like a modern car. of course I'm talking about frontal/side curtain airbags and VSA. But like I said even as a youngster, I am going to really miss all of those things in the modern to come cars of our near future. RIP Old reliable technologies ;(

Land Cruisers are a common sight in Oz, and the turbo-diesel makes it a lot more economical to run. Land Cruisers and Hi-Lux Utes are the go-to vehicles for remote mine sites, outback drivers, etc etc - anywhere you need a reliable, capable vehicle that you know will do the job. Toyotas for serious drivers; Jeeps and Land/Range Rovers for clowns, posers and wankers who are happy to have their car spend lots of time at the dealership getting shit fixed.

In my country, Dominican Republic the land cruiser only comes with 4.6 L V8 Turbo Diésel engine, and Believe me, with this engine it accelarates very strong thanks for its 443 pound feet of torque and it's so diferent, I would like to test the gasoline version to feel the diferences and yes it's very expensive too, in this country it costs 130,000 dollars but that is for the taxes.

I really like these, but I miss the solid axle, bare bones landcruisers of the 80s and 90s. These new IFS, V8 models are just too road oriented. They still make the FJ70 in most of the world, for that purpose (solid axle, bare bones) but not in the US. WHY TOYOTA. I want real lockers, not some simulated locker system that will break and cost 10k to fix. EDIT: and no, these do not have locking diffs like he claimed, they use some simulated crap that basically applies brakes to the slipping wheel to force power to the one with traction. Not really the same.

the 2 strongest Toyota landcruiser engines were 12ht diesel turbo straight 6cylinders and was basically a hino diesel but was an engine for the upgraded 60series landcruiser and the 2nd strongest engine for the Toyota landcruiser was the 1hd-fte straight 6cylinders it was and engine for the Australian 100series landcruiser and it was in limited edition of the toughest landcruiser which was the 70series landcruiser pickup which later vision is used by Isis which is a v8 diesel mine favorite truck is the nissan patrol gq y60 model td42 diesel straight 6 💪

This is not a luxurious SUV from toyota. This is an off road SUV with modern technology, of course need to be reliable and most of parts need to be plastic... your score of this car doesn't make any sense. This car is considered the best off road in the world, you simply do not see much on the street because of the price. If you are going to see in countries in Africa or in Saudi Arabia where the roads are mostly sand, the most used car is this Toyota Land Cruiser... If you don't know Lexus is the luxurious part of Toyota Go to see the last SUV from Lexus and remake this video.

For $85,000 it better last 50 years. My Chevy Silverado is 24 years old. I just put a brand new motor and a few other maintenance items in for under $2000. It'll last another 24+ years. It does the same thing that $85,000 Land Cruiser does. Take away all the technical gadgets to help you from crashing and its no different than any other SUV. Absolute waste of money unless you like to pay for names.

Let me first say I’ve always liked Toyota. I’ve owned the Highlander and now on my second Lexus. As reliable as it gets. And yes, if off roading and crossing deserts is your thing, the Land Bruiser ranks right near or at the top. But as an everyday vehicle its poor handling, lumbering, dismal mpg, weak acceleration, poorly designed 20 year old folding back seats which take up storage space leave it almost an antique. No, sorry, but there are a lot smarter choices with much better tech and comfort.
